Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu). The Union Minister of Labour & Employment, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has appealed to the employers of Beedi Workers to register them under the ESI Scheme so that the Beedi Workers get all the unlimited benefits being provided by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation. He was speaking on the occasion of foundation stone laying ceremony of ESI Hospital at Tirunelveli today.
Shri Kharge also appealed the Tamil Nadu Government for participating in RASHTRIYA SWASTHYA BEEMA YOJANA being run by the Union Labour Ministry for benefits of un-organized sector workers.
The establishment of ESI Hospital at Tirunelveli has great importance as it will cater to the needs of the large workforce of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Kanyakumari areas. This hospital will be fully air conditioned and constructed in 2.15 acres of land. It will have the state of the art equipment and will provide good quality health care to the insured persons. The estimated cost of the project is about Rs. 49.91 crore and will be completed in 18 months.
The Minister of Labour & Employment informed that in the recent past, the ESI Corporation has started the process of upgrading of ESIC Hospitals for providing better medical services to the beneficiaries such as Computerization of all Model Hospitals and Regional Offices, setting up & starting of Medical Colleges, Nursing Colleges, Dental Colleges and other para-medical schools in ESI Hospitals.
The Employees State Insurance Corporation runs a unique social security scheme which has the feature of an insurance organization as well as service provider for health related needs of the insured persons under the scheme. The Corporation has the largest team of medical and para-medical personnel in India and also has one of the largest medical infrastructures in the world. It has huge infrastructure of 144 Hospitals, 42 Hospitals Annexes, 1397 ESI Dispensaries, 1753 Panel Clinics, 795 Branch/Pay Offices and 51 Regional/Sub-Regional/Divisional Offices. The ESI Corporation has also approved formation of Hospital Development Committee for each hospital, which will look after up-gradation of hospital facilities and its attached dispensaries. They have been delegated with financial power.
The Ceremony was attended by Shri T.M. Anbarasan, Minister of Labour and Shri T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, Minister of Enviornment, Government of Tamil Nadu.
